Investigation of Fasciola hepatica Antibodies in Foreign Nationals in the High School Students

OBJECTIVE: In this study, in 347 high school students in Kayseri coming from 28 different countries, anti-Fasciola hepatica antibodies was investigated to be serologically with IHA method.
METHODS: In our study, anti-F. hepatica antibodies was investigated in serum samples taken from 347 high school students ages ranging between 15 and 21 (average: 17.52±1.36) in Kayseri coming from 28 different countries. The parasite’s egg was investigated in stool samples collected from seropositive subjects using native-lugol method.
RESULTS: 14 of them were determined as positive in the 1/320 dilution but F.hepatica eggs have not been found in their stool samples.
CONCLUSION: Fascioliosis, which is a major public health problem, was found to be serologically among foreign students studied high school in Kayseri. People should be informed with prevent and control methods for this infection.

Yabancı Uyruklu Lise Öğrencilerinde Fasciola hepatica Antikorlarının Araştırılması

AMAÇ: Bu çalışmada, 28 farklı ülkeden gelerek Kayseri'de lise öğrenimi gören 347 erkek öğrencide anti-Fasciola hepatica antikorlarının araştırılması amaçlanmıştır.

YÖNTEMLER: Çalışmamızda, 28 farklı ülkeden gelip Kayseri’de bir lisede öğrenim gören, yaşları 15 ile 21 (yaş ortalaması: 17.52±1.36) arasında değişen, 347 erkek öğrenciden alınan serum örneklerinde IHA yöntemi ile anti-F. hepatica antikorları araştırılmıştır. Seropozitif kişilerden alınan dışkı örnekleri nativ-lugol yöntemi ile incelenerek parazitin yumurtası araştırılmıştır.
BULGULAR: Öğrencilerden 14 (%4.03)’ünde 1/320 dilüsyonda sero-pozitiflik belirlenmiş fakat hiçbirinin dışkı örneğinde F.hepatica yumurtalarına rastlanmamıştır.

SONUÇ: Önemli bir halk sağlığı sorunu olan fasciolosis Kayseri ilinde lise öğrenimi gören yabancı uyruklu örencilerde serolojik olarak saptanmıştır. Bu enfeksiyonun epidemiyolojisi göz önüne alınarak insanlara gerekli korunma ve kontrol yöntemleri anlatılmalıdır.
