OBJECTIVE: In this study, we aimed to determine the hepatitis B virus (HBV) serologic profiles of the spouses of patients with acut hepatitis B, as a risk group. The study was carried out with 44 persons whom their spouses had acute hepatitis B infection.
METHODS: HBsAg, anti-HBc IgM, HBeAg, anti-HBe, Delta Ag (HDV) and anti-delta markers were evaluated in the patients’ and HBsAg, anti-HBc IgM, anti-HBs, SGOT, SGPT levels were evaluated in the spouses' sera.
RESULTS: In 21 spouses HBsAg and anti-HBs markers were found negative while HBs Ag were positive in 9 samples, and anti-HBs were positive in 14 samples.
CONCLUSION: According to our findings, HBsAg carriage in spouses of the patients with acut hepatitis B was higher than normal population.
